Let's get Cozy! Simple ways to add Comfort into your spaces
Hello and happy December, friend! Welcome to the official blog for Dani B. Designs. This space just became that much better because you're here. Grab a seat and get cozy!
In typical Dani fashion, this blog will serve as a space where we virtually catch up on all things interior design. Now I'd be dishonest if I said I might not deviate from the script from time to time, but I promise it'll tie back into the plot. Kind of like when you take two pieces that don't necessarily look like they'd have any relevance to a space, but once you put them there you realize they were the missing piece? Kinda sorta, not really? It's fine, my analogies and quirky jokes will start to make sense the more that we spend time together!
Anywho, if you aren't picking up on it already, this blog will read exactly how I speak. We're big on authenticity around here so it would be very off-brand for me to overly polish my verbiage for the sake of a blog, right? Great! Now that we've come to that understanding and formalities are officially out of the way, we can get into the fun stuff — our first official topic of interest!
With it being holiday season, year end wrap up, and new year preparation time, I thought it made sense to talk about curating comfort within your spaces.
Now you might be asking yourself, what in the world does comfort have to do with interior design!? My response is a very simple one — it is an ESSENTIAL component. When it comes to the creation of a design plan one of the first questions that comes to mind is "how do I want this space to feel?" Not just from an aesthetic perspective, but what types of materials do I literally want to see and feel within it?
Many are under the impression that if you want a space to have a certain "vibe", that comfort has to be compromised for the sake of the aesthetic but that is the farthest thing from the truth. You can create a space that not only looks great but feels great to be in as well. With that said, here are a few tips + recommendations to keep in mind as you look to create a comfortable space of your own:
Fabric for Thought
When you close your eyes and think about really being comfortable, what are the first thing/s that come to mind?
Are there any particular colors or textures that you think of? (ex: shades of blue, the feeling of cashmere or satin?)
What ways could you bring that feeling physically into your space?
Do I have your designer wheels turning? Good, let's continue! Now we're going to take a quick look at examples of how to bring comfort into various rooms and spaces:
Fabric for Thought (continued)
Adding comfort within:
Bedroom — include warm colors or cool colors depending on which feels more comfortable to you.
Living room/lounge area — more or different throw pillows, throw blankets, and artwork (trust me, it makes a difference!)
Bathroom — plush bath mats, fluffy cotton or waffle-woven bath towels, candles and/or oil diffusers with a eucalyptus or lavender scent.
Office — desk or floor lamps with warm colored light-bulbs, a blanket or cardigan (that can double as an accent "throw" for your desk chair when not in use).
Pretty simple, right? Well this is just a start! And remember that you don't have to break the bank to find these items. You can easily find these items at your local TJ Maxx/HomeGoods, Marshall's, Ross, Burlington, or Target.
Look at you, friend! You've officially got a few tools to help you start thinking about adding comfort to your space. I'll leave you to it. But…if you would like my help to really bring how you envision comfort into your space, schedule your consultation today.
